Ireland has always been high on my list of places to visit, so when the chance came, I jumped at it. This incredible journey was organized by CIE Tours, a company that knows Ireland like the back of its hand. They offer unparalleled guides, drivers, and experiences, making them the go-to experts for exploring the Emerald Isle.
Our adventure kicked off in Dublin, starting with a walk to the prestigious Trinity College. Seeing the Book of Kells was such a surreal experience—being surrounded by all that rich history was the perfect introduction
Next, we wandered down Grafton Street, buzzing with street musicians, artists, and those inviting shops begging for us to pop in. The atmosphere here was infectious and set the tone for our Irish escapade. And who knew Butler’s Chocolates was a thing?! Thank God I had room in my suitcase for all the candy I brought home with me!
Our first day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to EPIC, The Irish Emigration Museum. Walking through its interactive exhibits was a revelation, offering an immersive dive into Ireland’s emigration stories—you feel the heart of Ireland through those vibrant displays.
Dinner at Roly’s Bistro that evening provided just the right flavors to wrap up our bustling day.
With CIE Tours, you’re not just a tourist; you’re welcomed like family. Heading out of Dublin the next day, our fantastic bus driver Patrick quickly became an integral part of our adventure. Not only was he an amazing driver on those famously windy and narrow roads, but he also kept us entertained with tales and humor during our travel between destinations the entire week.
The following morning, we delved into the Pearse Lyons Distillery. Occupying what was originally an old church, this distillery combines the ancient with the art of whiskey-making, with beautiful stained glass adding a splash of color to the ambiance. Their stories of how the Lyons family revived the place added a unique personal touch.
Onward to Sean’s Bar in Athlone—known as Ireland’s oldest pub, dating back over a millennium. Being part of such history, even just for a drink, was something special.
We ended our day in Galway, a city that won us over with its laid-back charm and vibrant energy.
Traveling to County Clare, we made a memorable stop at Caherconnell Farm.
Watching those remarkably trained sheepdogs work with such precision was a standout moment, complemented by some wonderful scones and tea. The butter is truly better here!
The Cliffs of Moher awaited, and their breathtaking beauty did not disappoint—a panoramic view I won’t soon forget.
In Killarney, our stay was at the ideally situated Killarney Plaza Hotel, surrounded by great pubs and shops, all within easy walking distance.
A jaunting car ride through Killarney National Park brought us to Ross Castle. We all loved this experience with the horses and entertaining drivers. Our journey along the Ring of Kerry was a cascade of awe-inspiring views, each more stunning than the last. Our evening ended with some lively tunes at Paddy Sheehan’s Pub, the heart of what makes Ireland’s nights magical.
Kissing the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle—a tradition I wouldn’t miss for the world! The castle grounds felt like stepping onto a page in a storybook. We easily could have spent more time there.
Next up was Waterford, where the House of Waterford Crystal astounded us with its craftsmanship. Sipping from those elegant crystals seemed like a fitting tribute to Irish artistry. The champagne tasted even better!
In the historic town of Waterford, our guide Jack made history vivid on a walking tour, showcasing the Clock Tower, Reginald’s Tower, and more. He was incredibly engaging in his tellings of Ireland’s history.
The Rock of Cashel offered us a window into the past that was both informative and captivating—thanks to our guide, who truly brought the history to life with tales of kings and ecclesiastical lore. It’s these genuine connections with Ireland’s history that made the trip unforgettable.
Returning to Dublin, a visit to the Guinness Storehouse was a literal highlight. This self guided tour was truly enjoyable. There’s something about Guinness in Ireland—it’s distinctly better, making the trip worth it just for that authentic taste!
Our final evening at Taylor’s Three Rock featured delicious Irish fare, rollicking music, and even had me reciting a limerick on stage, capping a trip that was every bit as wonderful as I’d imagined.
Reflecting on our journey, each moment in Ireland was more than just a memory; it was an experience that captured the spirit of this incredible country. Traveling with CIE Tours not only made this all possible, but not having to worry about moving my luggage each time was wonderful! This really emphasized the importance of having a knowledgeable and helpful team by your side.
